A LONG-AWAITED £4.6million sports complex for Peebles High School is a step closer now that plans have been submitted for approval.
The project includes a full-size synthetic pitch, with floodlights, a sprint athletics track and long jump track and pit.
A sports hall with fitness room and changing facilities are also part of the scheme.
Parents were able to see the plans late last year, and if the bid gets the go ahead, work will begin next year with completion in 2014.
Tweeddale councillor Catriona Bhatia is relieved to see the sports development finally moving forward.
She told TheSouthern: “These facilities should have been built in 2000, but at least the money is in the budget and the plans have been submitted.
“This is long over due for the largest school in the Borders.
“Peebles High has the same PE facilities it had when there were 600 pupils – it now has 1,300 pupils. We really have to make sure this goes ahead.”
The school’s physical education team consists of five teachers.
