VOLUNTEERS from the WRVS at Borders General Hospital (BGH) have gifted £178,000 to the hospital, raised at their shop there, their trolley service and guiding. The funds will go towards the construction of the Margaret Kerr Palliative Care Unit.

John Raine, chairman of NHS Borders said: “This effort has been wonderful and is very much appreciated. In all they do, WRVS volunteers make a difference that money cannot buy. They brighten the time patients and their families spend in hospital.

The 174 WRVS volunteers at the BGH come from across the community and many carry out a number of volunteering roles.

Jean Trench, WRVS service delivery manager, said: “We are delighted to support the development of the Margaret Kerr Palliative Care Unit and are extremely proud that the efforts of our volunteers in raising £178,000 will be going towards this service.”
