FOLLOWING on from the highly successful Team Borders initiative in the East Cross-country League over the winter, the Scottish Borders Athletics Development Group has secured a place for the local outfit in the JSB Plumbing Forth Valley League for the summer season.
This is a track and field competition for the under-11, under-13 and under-15 age groups. The first of three matches takes place at Grangemouth Stadium on April 21 and BSLT sports development officer Neil Renton has issued a call for young athletes from across the region to make themselves available for selection.
“Selecting a composite team from across the Borders for the first match won’t be easy, particularly for the Under-11 age-group where there is little form to go on, so we are encouraging as many athletes as possible to enter the Lothian Trials meeting at Meadowbank on Sunday, April 8, which we will use as a selection trial,” he said.
“Participation isn’t obligatory and athletes who don’t take part may still be considered, but it will clearly be an advantage to have an official time or performance to their name.”
Athletes and their coaches should note that the closing date for entries to arrive by post with the organisers of the Lothian Trials is Friday, March 23, and they can contact Neil at the BSLT sports development office for an entry form on 01896 756274.
