In last Saturday’s Xela Scaffolding Grouse Trophy, Les McAllister flowered in the showers with a blooming good score of 66 less 2 for a net 64 to win the trophy.

His round included three twos, but sadly none at the nominated holes. He almost won this week’s sympathy, but that is reserved for John Coyle who had to take his socks and shoes off plus a bit more to count his score at the 17th.

The condition of the course so early in the season came in for praise from the players, and it was perhaps fitting that greenkeeper Gordon McGregor was among the prizewinners.

Results: 1, L. McAllister nett 64; 2, S. Henderson 65; 3, G. McGregor 66; 4, C. Kemp 67.

There were only two twos at the nominated holes, the in-form Chris Kemp and the resurgent Norman Roxburgh both having twos at the 18th.

Next week’s competition is the May Medal and Brown Cup and it is sponsored by Belmont Suzuki.

Meanwhile, the ladies competed for the first piece of silverware last week vying for the coveted Margo Lawson Cup.

Setting her stall out for the season was Alison Rutherford who scorched round in an excellent 75
(8) Nett 67 winning by a
large margin.

Three ladies managed a two, namely Carol Purves, Moira Wilson and Pat McGhee.

The May medal was played for in more like November conditions than May, however there were some good scores posted.

Ros Roxburgh continued her good start to the season winning the silver division returning 81(14) Nett 67, in the bronze division it was Lynne Robertson who came out on top with a nett 75. Ev Rafferty had the only Two chipping in in style at the 16th for an eagle.

The ladies would like to thank N. W. Purves &
Son for their sponsorship of the medal.
