GALASHIELS’ canoeist Alice Haining has been awarded £4,000 by the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust to help her achieve her Olympic dream.
The grant is a four-year legacy to aid the talented teenager with expenses as she aims to compete at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janiero.
Alice, pictured right, received £750 from the trust last year, and was given her latest cash boost after completing a rigorous winter training programme.
David Boland of the trust said: “She is in great shape as she starts the new season’s competitions.
“During 2012, Alice aims to compete in 15 events, including three Olympic selection races and nine Great Britain selection races, ranging from under-18 to senior level. The annual cost of training and competing at this high level is exorbitant.
“Alice is a dedicated young athlete with a remarkable talent and the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust is proud to support her on her journey.”
