Kelso 4
Liberton 1
EAST LADIES PREMIER DIVISION
A DOUBLE from Suzanne Fleming helped Kelso Ladies overcome bottom-of-the-table Liberton.
The hosts threatened first and Natasha McLaren scored a tremendous goal, only to have it ruled out for a foul on her.
Kelso were disallowed the strike, but awarded the penalty corner which saw player-of-the-match Corrine Bird’s shot rebound to Fleming to score.
Liberton could not really deal with the Kelso midfield and the Tweedsiders went two up when a lovely ball played into the circle by Holly Wallwork was nicely picked up by Bird, who fired home.
Kelso keeper Tamara Cook made some good saves as Liberton pushed to get back into the game.
McLaren was then obstructed inside the circle, denying her a shot on goal, leaving the referee with no option but to award a penalty stroke that captain Emma Pate scored for a 3-0 half-time lead.
After Liberton pressure, Kelso settled into their game deep into the second half, and Bird’s shot was saved into the path of Fleming to seal the victory, despite Liberton capitalising on a late penalty corner.
