Hawick Royal Albert were quick to act this week following a coin-throwing incident during their Image Printers Cup clash with Gala FDR.

The two teams were playing at Albert Park last Friday evening when a Gala committee member was struck with the 10p piece while sitting in the stand viewing the game.

Following committee talks this week, Gala Fairydean Rovers have made the East of Scotland FA aware of what happened and match secretary Rob Fairburn told The Southern: “The club felt that matters had to be brought to the attention of the association, however, Hawick have informed us that they have dealt with the situation.”

Indeed, Hawick secretary Dougie Purves told us: “Hawick Royal Albert have apologised to Gala.

“This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated by Hawick Royal Albert. The incident has been investigated and action has been taken by the club.”

Hawick Royal Albert are without banned pair Andy Williamson and Paul Brown for their home East of Scotland First Division match with Hibernian EOS.

Elsewhere, Vale of Leithen, Kelso United, Gala Fairydean, Selkirk and Peebles Rovers are all involved in cup action this weekend.

The Vale take on Kelso in the second round of the South of Scotland Cup at Victoria Park.

Looking ahead to this clash, Vale secretary Alec Currie told The Southern: “Although we are in a higher league than Kelso, this will mean absolutely nothing as it’s a Border derby game.

“I know all about derby games as I have seen plenty of them over the years and I am well aware that anything can happen in matches like this. This will be drummed into our players and we won’t be underestimating Kelso who have been going well. It will be a tough game for us.”

Vale are without the suspended John Ferguson.

Gala Fairydean are also involved in South Cup action.

The Netherdale outfit, who have won their last two games without conceding a goal, travel to face Easthouses Lily.

Selkirk host Ormiston in the first round of the King Cup and, in the same competition, Peebles Rovers tackle Duns at Whitestone Park.
