THIS was a must-win game for both sides at Stonehill, both teams knew defeat would virtually cancel any hope of promotion.
It was the home team that started strongly, scrum half Owenson converting a penalty, but Jed collected points during their first visit to their opponents’ half when Sean Goodfellow barged over after some forward rushes at the home line, Laidlaw converted.
Jed increased their lead with another two converted penalties before Musselburgh added a converted try.
Laidlaw converted another penalty on the 30-minute mark, but again the home side replied almost immediately, this time with a penalty, closing the gap to 13-16.
The next score came deep into first half injury time when Iain Chisholm broke through to score near the posts. Laidlaw converted to make the half-time score 13-23.
The second half started as the first ended with both teams wanting to entertain the big crowd, the travelling support were rewarded early in the half when captain Robert Hogg scored a try, which gave Laidlaw an easy conversion.
Musselburgh kept plugging away and came back with a penalty and a converted try, but Laidlaw notched a penalty to take the score to 23-33 with five minutes left on the clock. The hosts had the last say when making the most of a 13-minute injury time period which saw them notch a try and earn a losing bonus point.
