Hawick YM 14

Kelso 33

KELSO’S Dom Buckley was the star man for the Poynder Park men, rolling in with no less than three tries in this Border Regional Cup opener.

His partner in crime, David Gobby, pitched in with two tries of his own and Keiran Wilkinson hit three of the conversions, while Murray Hastie was successful with one.

For Hawick YM, who were by no means blown away by the Tweedsiders, the two try scorers were Dean McCracken and Lindsay Gibson.

Kelso coach Darren Cunningham said: “We had a good few changes, so I used some fringe players and moved a few positions around.

“It was a soft pitch, so it was not really ideal for running rugby, but we still put some good stuff together.

“The pleasing thing for me is that we created quite a few chances.

“It’s always good to win a game, and I’m fairly pleased with the performance.”
