The Family Bonspiel took place on Boxing Day, as is the tradition, and was won by the Kerr family, writes Alistair Lindsay.

Under the fearsome guidance of junior vice-president David Kerr, the win was the second for the family of this trophy donated by the late, great Jim Baird.

Appropriately, Jim’s great-granddaughter Rachael Potts presented the prize, with generous sponsorship from the Cross Keys Hotel.

Section One of the Masstock Border League brought the leaders Ayton Castle and Glendale head-to-head, with Ayton running out winners by 10-4.

Coldstream broke their duck by defeating near rivals Swinton 9-4.

In Section Two, St Boswells’ winning streak continued with a 8-2 triumph over Kelso, and Jedburgh consolidated their second spot by defeating Lees 8-3.

Right up to last season, Hamish Campbell was a keen observer of the Auld Yins, from behind the glass, and for many, many years before that.

He variously played in the Auld Yins, and also for Ayton Castle, Lauderdale and Jedburgh.

Forbye all that, Hamish excelled in a variety of sports throughout his life, including rugby, cricket, tennis and golf.

A true gentleman all his days, he will be missed by a large cross section of friends, both sporting and business-wise – our condolences are with his family.
