BRAVE is the latest movie from leading animation studio, Disney Pixar, and hopes are high that it will have a massive impact on tourism in the Borders and the rest of Scotland.

Now the company has released the first official full clip from what has been described as a Highland adventure comedy, set in a mythical Scotland of mountains, mists and castles.

Featuring the voices of Billy Connolly, Robbie Coltrane and Kelly Macdonald among others, the computer-generated fantasy tells the story of skilled archer, Merida.

Defying an age-old custom that unleashes chaos in the kingdom, she has to undo a curse before it is too late. It is the first film by Pixar – which made the smash hits Toy Story, Finding Nemo and Up - to feature a female character in the lead role.

Speaking to TheSouthern recently, VisitScotland chairman Dr Mike Cantlay highlighted the significance of Brave. which opens in Scottish cinemas in August, to the country’s tourist industry.

“It is expected to be a hit across 72 countries – and it’s just one of the profile-raisers which has led us to dub the period from 2012 until 2014, when we host the Commonwealth Games, as Scotland’s Winning Years,” Mr Cantlay told us.

He also highlighted the fact that Scotland would provide venues for four major golf events: The Open, Scottish Open, the Johnny Walker and, significantly, the Ryder Cup in 2014.
