Glasgow Hawks 12
Hawick 17
PREMIER B
THE Greens travelled west for the second successive week and beat Glasgow Hawks at Old Anniesland in a tense affair to keep their promotion hopes alive.
On a bitterly cold afternoon, the visitors, with the strong wind behind them, opened the scoring through Neil Renwick, which he also converted, before adding a 35m penalty.
Hawks fought back strongly and No8 Ross Miller opened their account.
On 35 minutes, Hawick were reduced to 13 men when referee, Neil Paterson, issued two yellow cards within a minute to Hawick forwards Rory Sutherland and Bruce McNeil.
Just before half-time, Renwick tried a long-range penalty which came off the post. When the home team tried to move play out of their 22, Graeme Hogg intercepted and scored gleefully in the corner. Renwick banged over the conversion from the touchline to give the Greens a 17-5 lead.
The home side opened the second half strongly when Scotland Sevens player, Kerr Gossman, scored a smart try, converted by Martin.
Play was held up for 10 minutes while Greens second row forward, Kieran Willson was injured and had to leave the field on a stretcher.
Despite the home hooker and Michael Robertson getting yellow cards, the Greens showed remarkable defence to keep Hawks out and fully deserved their win which keeps them in the hunt for promotion from Premier B.
