BRITISH Orienteering Talent Squad member Kirstin Maxwell has returned from a successful week’s competition in Northern Europe.

On the opening weekend, Kirstin, from Jedburgh, was part of the Scottish relay team that finished in a best ever 62nd position out of 1,200 teams in the Venla relays in Southern Finland. The competition is normally dominated by the Scandinavians and consists of teams of four women running and navigating over a total of more than 28km of Finish forest.

Kirstin then crossed the Baltic Sea to Estonia to take part in a series of events around the capital city Tallinn, where she finished in an excellent eighth place in a world-ranking sprint held in the gardens and parkland around the presidential palace.

The highlight of the week was a city race around the old medieval town of Tallinn with Kirstin again having a good run, finishing in fourth place behind Australian Felicity Brown and athletes from the Czech Republic and England.
