Leading scorer Des Burnett struck twice to take his season total to 23 goals and seal victory on United’s first trip to Burntisland, writes George Riley.
Jordan Lauder scored the other, while the home side’s frustration came to a head in the last few minutes when two players were shown red cards by referee Billy Cooper.
Satisfied manager Prof Blaikie said: “Burntisland are quite a decent passing side, but lacked the physical strength that our boys had, and as our defence was rock solid it was pleasing to get a victory with a clean sheet.”
Kelso went in front in the 14th minute as Burnett’s free kick found the top corner of the net before keeper Rhory Mooney could react.
United increased their lead in the 35th minute when Burnett’s cross was met by Lauder, who swept past two defenders to knock the ball home.
It took the hosts an hour before they had an effort on goal when winger Alex Peoples’ shot from 20 yards went wide. Ten minutes from time, Kelso made it three when Lauder sent Burnett through on Mooney, who parried the ball to Liam Hill. His shot hit a defender and ended up back at Burnett, who fired home.
Blair Grubb received a second yellow in the closing stages, followed by Martin Nedialkov being sent off for throwing the ball in the face of Chris Black.
