THE annual general meeting of Langholm cricket club was held in the clubrooms last Sunday evening when chairman David Pool welcomed the members, writes John Smith.
Secretary Graham Park stated that it had been a major year for the club with the resignation from the Border League and joining the Eden Valley League.
Langholm finished third in the Border League last season, with St Boswells the winners, and the seconds finished fourth in the reserve league.
Duncan Elliott was elected as captain of the club, with Gregor Park moving to vice-captain. Andrew Bell becomes 2nd XI captain with Jamie Ashton-Smith as his vice-captain. There were no other major changes to the office bearers, apart from Roy Park taking over from Colin Turk as clubmaster.
The junior club is offering free junior membership for 2012, which will hopefully encourage more youngsters into having a go at cricket. The Junior Cricket Day will be on Sunday, April 22.
Langholm will compete in division three of the Eden Valley cricket league against teams from Carlisle and the surrounding area.
The decision to withdraw from the Border League was not taken lightly, but it was felt that this was the best way forward to guarantee the future of the club. In the first set of fixtures for the revamped Border League the Langholm 2nd XI are away to Hawick on Sunday April 29.
The chairman finished the meeting by stating that exciting times lay ahead for the club in the Eden Valley League, with new opponents, new venues and new friends for the 2012 season.
