RYAN MANIA is expected to return to his home in the Borders today after spending a precautionary night in hospital.
The Galashiels Grand National winning jockey suffered a bad fall during the St John Lee Handicap Hurdle at Hexham racecourse yesterday.
Riding Stagecoach Jasper the pair came down at the start of the final circuit and it is believed that Ryan was kicked between the shoulder blades by another horse.
After being treated on the course by medics the 23-year-old was airlifted to hospital in Newcastle.
He has since been monitored for head and neck injuries but tweeted last tight: “Thanks so much for all the messages. I’m Grand. Staying in hospital to get another scan tomorrow then should be home.”
He also thanked everyone involved in the incident including the Great North Air Ambulance and staff at Hexham Racecourse.
