A competitive maiden hunter chase for the prestigious Buccleuch Cup is the feature of Kelso’s seven-race card on Monday, when gates open at noon.

Racing comes under orders at 2pm, preceded by Charles Owen pony racing at 1pm.

Edinburgh financial house Cazenove Capital Management again support the Princess Royal Trust for Carers with sponsorship of the Buccleuch Cup.

Northumberland-based Jimmy Walton is likely to have step-daughter Catherine on board home-bred winning point-to-pointer Coquet Head.

The combination landed last year’s Buccleuch Cup with Highland Cathedral. Recent Sedgefield fourth Hawthorne Bay, trained at Galston in Ayrshire by Mike Smith, is another possible.

The third race is also in aid of the Princess Royal Trust and Selkirk trainer Stuart Coltherd may run Suprise Vendor, after a cracking third at Catterick last month, and could be joined by the Jim Goldie-trained Bene Lad and James Ewart’s Ayr scorer Sacre Toi.

In the Conditional Jockeys handicap hurdle race Harriet Graham has been kept busy over Easter in her role as clerk of the course at Musselburgh and the Jedburgh trainer could be represented in this by her presenting gelding Ballybroe. Farm Pixie, who ran at Carlisle over Easter, could reappear for Northumberland trainer Ann Hamilton.

Coltherd is considering the ensuing chase for Kelso regular Talking Sence, who also may get an entry in the staying handicap hurdle. He won over hurdles here in late December and this could be his chasing debut.

Irish handler Stuart Crawford is also looking at the meeting for Hidden Horizons, who finished midfield recently at Fairyhouse.

In the penultimate race at 4.30pm, Lucy Alexander – who recently picked up a Lester as leading lady jockey – and her trainer father Nick could team up with Milano Magic. Ten-year-old Solis is also a possible for Penrith mother and daughter Dianne and Emma Sayer.

The final race on the card, a mares’ handicap chase, may see Irish raider Streamstown among the entries. This mare has winning form over fences and hurdles.
