It was the battle of the basement boys at a very chilly Milntown last Saturday – and Langholm sunk deeper into relegation after losing in a tight match.
The Milntown pack struggled in the scrums and their forwards rarely functioned as a positive unit.
Berwick looked much more streetwise up front and caused considerable problems with the lineout take and drive in the corner.
The visitors missed a penalty chance after 10 minutes, but went ahead at the end of the first quarter. It started from a penalty kick to the corner for position and then they drove over from the resultant lineout.
Langholm secured a scrum 10 metres out and from a No. 8 pick-up Stuart Graham fed Niall Cubbon who came with a run on the narrow side and went over in the corner.
Half-time arrived with the score 5-5 and Langholm went in front for the first time not long after when Cubbon kicked a penalty.
Berwick continued to cause problems with driving mauls and eventually secured another unconverted try in the same manner as the first.
Home fly half Colin Jardine had to go off injured, and Cubbon went near to grabbing a late win when his attempted drop goal drifted just past.
