THE drama that is Gala Fairydean football club continued this week when two more main characters exited stage left.

Long-standing chairman Jos Ritchie made his final bow on Sunday, giving work commitments as the reason, while interim coach Stuart Robertson has left, after a two-week guest appearance, due to family commitments.

Things aren’t as bleak as they seem, though. For taking over Ritchie’s role, until at least the end of the season, is former Fairies favourite Jaybo Gray, who is making an immediate start on boosting the ratings at the crisis-struck club.

Currently an honorary president at the club, Gray told The Southern: “It has been disappointing to see the way things have deteriorated over the last few months.

“We are now working hard to steady the ship.”

Coaches John O’Hara and Darren Walker will continue with their work on the field. Robertson told us: “It was the right job at the wrong time for me. Gala is a great club but I will have to take a back seat, for now.”

Since stepping into the role on Monday, Gray and his committee have been holding talks with Gala Rovers and local businesses to try and find “a way forward” for the club.
