A horse named after one of Galashiels’ most famous landmarks is preparing for its Kelso Races debut next month.
Raid Stane, owned by a syndicate of 10 from the Auld Mill pub in the town, is to be entered for the Buccleuch Cup on April 8.
The seven-year-old has teamed up with 17-year-old Hawick schoolboy Tom Hamilton to claim two wins and a third at Alnwick’s Point to Point course so far this year.
Raid Stane is one of six horses currently running for trainer Katie Scott from her Lindean yard.
Scott said: “Raid Stane was bought and broken in at the yard and we hope he can go on and make the Buccleuch Cup.
“The syndicate have owned the horse for two years so it is great to see him now winning some races for them. They come along to every point to point and enjoy their day.”
Auld Mill owner Scott Paterson said: “The Raid Stane name was thought up around the time of the Braw Lads Gathering week. It has provided plenty of patter in the pub and after two years it is good to see it picking up some wins.
“Katie and her team at the yard are doing a great job and we are hopeful of more success.”
