Active Champions are holding their first sports camp from April 1 to 3 at St Mary’s School, Melrose.

The camp is for boys and girls aged nine to 13, and gives all them the basic skills and knowledge that they need to excel in sport.

Active Champions, supported by Fjordhus, has been developed by well-known Borders coaches Janet Jack and Doug Folan, both of whom are passionate about sport and the importance of young people having the right skills and knowledge so that they can progress in a manner that they can achieve their potential.

Over the course of the three days, budding athletes will have the chance to work as part of a small team, compete against others, test their fitness skills, improve their running and movement skills, and learn about the importance of nutrition as a fuel, hydration and how to prevent injury. They will also have the opportunity to hear from local athletes who are aiming to be the next Scottish sporting stars.

“The Active Champions Camp emphasis is on having fun through sport, but will also demonstrate the importance of developing a ‘winning attitude’, working with others and understanding the significance of fitness and health,” said lead coach Jack. “These core values are invaluable in providing the tool kit required to progress to the highest level in sport.”

Folan added “The more that we teach about the basic skills then the easier it will be for these young athletes to reach their potential.”
