Peebles 19
Howe of Fife 17
RBS CHAMPIONSHIP B
PEEBLES came from behind to beat Howe of Fife at the Gytes on Saturday in the vital top-of-the-table clash between the best two teams in Championship B.
It’s unfortunate that one of these sides will have to try for promotion again next year, and barring any slip-ups of monumental proportions at bottom club Morgan this weekend, Peebles will be crowned Championship B champions with a ticket back to the top 20 of Scottish rugby under the guidance of Peter Wright.
Peebles’ points on Saturday came from three Greg Raeburn penalties and one from Donald Anderson, who also converted Ryan Mcconnel’s try.
One award we can already confirm is that Peebles have won the Team of the Year award in the Borders Rugby Rankings with 72 points, giving them an unassailable lead over Hawick.
In the five years the rankings have been going, four teams have won it, with Melrose keeping the trophy for the last two years. Hawick YM and Hawick are also past winners.
There are six senior club categories in the rankings, devised by TheSouthern’s rugby correspondent Stuart Cameron, with Peebles currently topping them all.
