SO fond are the Borders College staff of oystercatcher regulars Olive and Popeye, they are thinking of setting a webcam up to keep an eye on them.

The annual visitors herald spring and returned to the college’s Galashiels campus last month for the 14th year in a row.

The college’s marketing manager Cameron Reith said: “The birds nest next to the ICT office and get scores of visitors checking on their progress during the nesting and hatching season, as well as some with cameras in hand.”

The pair were first noticed by facilities team leader and local man Wattie Dodds who has worked at the campus for 20 years.

Staff at the college have a feeding fund set up by the college’s David Killean, to pay for mealworms for the birds.

Mr Reith said: “Consideration has been given to having a webcam to watch the birds progress.”

Last year the pair had four eggs and 2012’s hatchlings are pictured below.
