THE Orienteering League kicked off at Gullane last weekend, with the first leg of seven.

With a hint of spring and a spectacular Assembly Area overlooking the sandy expanse of the bay, everyone was in good spirits despite some demanding courses among the dunes.

On a roll after success in the recent qualifying round of the British Cup, there were some excellent results for Roxburgh Reivers, with wins for John Tullie (M55) and Fiona Forrest (W35) and second places for Karen Maxwell (W18), Sarah Tullie (W21), Lindsey Knox (W50) and Robin Sloan (M65). Rob Cranston was third on M45S and eight-year-old Antony Amos, in his first event outwith the Borders, was third on the Under-10 course.

The next local event is at Bowmont Forest, near Kelso, on March 23.
