RBS NATIONAL LEAGUE

JED-FOREST have been clinging on to National League status by their fingernails over the last few weeks, but a bonus-point win for fellow stragglers Biggar at the weekend could well turn out to be the straw that broke the camel’s back.

They have two games to play at home against leading pair Hawick and Glasgow Hawks, but even a maximum 10 points from those may not be enough to survive.

Jed were under pressure from the kick-off. The home team had the greatest share of possession for the first quarter and scored an individual try through their prop after 10 minutes.

This wakened the visitors up and after some hard-won possession, Iain Chisholm converted a couple of penalties in the 15 and 17th minutes before ending an ill-disciplined first half by notching a third to make it 5-9 at the interval.

The second half started badly for the visitors, losing three converted tries after only 15 minutes.

Jed replied with a try by Michael Weekley in the corner, which Chisholm was unable to convert. With Jed now having to run at the home team with every opportunity, Biggar scored their final converted try after a mix-up in the Jed midfield, a spilled pass quickly picked up by the Biggar centre to race 30m and score between the posts.

Jed-Forest: L. Young; C. Gillon, I. Chisholm, R. Hogg, D. Gobby; N. Fono-Hunt, R. Goodfellow; A. Ions, D. Grieve, N. Bates, J. Rowley, G. Young, G. Elder, M. Weekley, D. Grieve. Subs: J. Szkudro, N. Cook, J. Sudlow, J. Hogg, D. Wallace.
