Boroughmuir 12
Melrose 18
RBS PREMIERSHIP
TRAILING 12-6 with 20 minutes to play, Melrose managed to turn their fortunes and slip into third place in the league on Saturday.
In a first half littered with penalties, Ali Warnock boosted the Boroughmuir score in the early stages with a successful brace before Andrew Skeen notched his first penalty on 18 minutes. Warnock kicked a further two before a Joe Helps long-range bullet gave Melrose a further three points. Half time: Boroughmuir 12 Melrose 6.
An injury to Melrose replacement hooker Wayne Mitchell meant uncontested scrums for most of the second half.
Nevertheless, Melrose began to take advantage, and when Jackson Achilles was yellow-carded going into the final 20 minutes, Alan Dodds raced in for a try with Skeen’s conversion giving Melrose the lead for the first time.
Bruce Dick added another try before the final whistle to seal the win for the Greenyards outfit.
