DUNCAN ELLIOTT was re-elected as the Langholm cricket captain at the AGM in the Castleholm clubrooms last Friday evening, writes John Smith.
His vice-captain will be Ben Maxwell, who takes over from Gregor Park, while the 2nds will be led by Andrew Bell, with Ross Rae the vice-captain.
David Pool remains chairman and in his opening remarks stated that the decision to join the Eden Valley cricket league had been the correct one, and it had been a hugely enjoyable 2012 season both on and off the park.
Secretary Graham Park gave a brief rundown of the past season.
Langholm 1st XI played 14 league fixtures, winning 12, the only defeats being to Stainton 2nd XI, who won the third division, with Langholm finishing second.
Several Langholm players finished high up in the league averages – Gregor Park and Ben Maxwell in the batting and Duncan Elliott, Graham Park and Steven Johnstone with the ball. The seconds had a disappointing season in the Border Sunday League, only completing three matches due to the weather and the league rules stating that they could not play on the artificial wicket.
Treasurer Gregor Park reported that the club had made a small profit on the year.
This was a good effort, mainly due to an increased profit on the bar as ground care, travel expenses and catering had all been more costly.
A new role in the form of a sponsorship manager was created and that will be Chris Stewart.
In any other business, it was stated that the club was still looking to replace the artificial wicket and are looking to get it in place for the start of the season.
The club is looking for a new shirt sponsor as Magnox, sponsors for the last couple of years, will not be renewing.
