Winton 4
Selkirk Victoria 7 (aet: 4-4 at 90 minutes)
WADDELL CUP FIRST ROUND
SELKIRK VICS were extra pleased with themselves on Saturday, after sealing a tight match with three extra-time goals.
Nathan Douglas opened Selkirk’s account after 10 minutes, turning home Darren Munro’s flick at the near post.
Winton equalised five minutes later when their striker rounded Michael White in the Vics goal and tapped the ball into an empty net.
Selkirk edged in front again just before half-time.
Douglas’ effort from long range bounced in front of the Winton keeper, who let the ball spin past him.
The visitors opened up a two-goal lead on the hour mark when Douglas completed his hat-trick with a 30-yard strike.
With 10 minutes to go, Winton got themselves back into the game with a strike from the edge of the area. Five minutes later, the hosts were level when a cross found the advancing midfielder who tapped the ball in at the far post.
Munro looked like he’d given Selkirk victory in injury time. The Winton goalkeeper came out of his box and tried to clear his lines, but the ball fell to Munro, who chipped it over the keeper’s head and into the net.
However, straight from kick-off, the home side went down the park and scored.
Munro fired Selkirk back in front during extra time and, two minutes later, Vics captain Grant Brownlee flicked in William Mercer’s corner to make it 6-4.
With five minutes to go, Mercer spun two defenders before slotting the ball home via the post.
