FOOTBALLER Liam Howell has been awarded £200 from the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust.
The 15-year-old will put the grant towards travelling costs while playing for top Edinburgh youth side Hutchison Vale.
He has played with the club for the last three seasons after a spell with Kelso, and has won consecutive SER Division One championships.
His consistent performances have led to Liam earning Scottish Youth FA national squad trials at under-15 and under-16 levels, reaching the final selection stage of 45 players from an initial number of 4,500.
The Galashiels teenager has also been training with Aberdeen’s academy in Edinburgh and hopes to get back to fitness soon – he is currently injured and “fed up”, according to dad Tim.
