Ayton on the rise

LAST week’s Agrii Border League results were three in number, writes Alastair Lindsay.

Dark horse Jedburgh held Yester to five-all peel, Ayton Castle keeping St Boswells out at 9-6 with Lees going 8-4 against Teviotdale.

The following day Ayton Castle held a successful two session invitation bonspiel involving 64 curlers, a notable effort in this day and age for a midweek fixture.

Mark Halsall skipped the winning rink, and Frank Forrest won the ‘Big End’ award with a five. There were no prizes for slack tappets or loose gudgeon pins, however.

On the same day, rinks representing Swinton and Yester did battle at Murrayfield in the umpteen and nineteenth Corstorphine friendly, with the result being the customary honourable peel on interesting ice.

Despite last Friday’s less than kindly weather, Chirnside’s annual invitation bonspiel went off in customary good style with Bert Duncan skipping the winning rink.

Looming on the very near horizon, is the Great Swinton Pairs competition, with the semis and final occurring this very evening,
