THE winners of this year’s Melrose Sevens will pocket £3,000, the Greenyards club has revealed.
The losing finalist will take home £1,500, while losing semi-finalists (£1,000) and quarter-finalists (£500) will also be rewarded.
Melrose Sevens convenor Ian Cooper said: “We always like to reward endeavour and this will be reflected in the results that teams achieve.
“Last year, Jed-Forest and Aberdeen were semi-finalists, while Glasgow Hawks, Watsonians, London Scottish and Edinburgh Accies made the quarter-finals, and all benefitted from the tournament financially.
“Melrose RFC has included prize money for many years now with the primary objective being to encourage the strongest sides possible to appear.”
