WITH forecasters warning of severe weather conditions, including sleet, snow and freezing wind-chill temperatures, organisers of athletics event, Pitreavie Gift, have decided to postpone the event scheduled for this coming Sunday until Sunday March 24.
The event, to be held at Dunfermline’s Pitreavie Athletics Centre, will be staged as originally programmed, with no alterations or additional entrants admitted in the meantime.
Chairman Ron Sutherland said: “Our principal intention is to ensure the interests of athletes come first at Pitreavie Gift. On this occasion, with anticipated adverse weather, the safety and comfort of competitors on the track are crucially important. Equally, we have a major responsibility to protect the security and comfort of the travelling public and all spectators at Pitreavie Athletics Centre.”
He added: “Scotland is a truly wonderful country, even in the depths of in winter. However, we simply cannot take chances with the well-being of athletes, volunteers, customers and supporters. Consequently, we really had no option but to move to ‘Plan B’ and re-schedule the entire meeting, giving all concerned the opportunity to focus on the new date in March for another super, successful event.”
