RBS EAST LEAGUE ONE

SEVEN weeks without any action certainly showed in the Milntown men’s performance at Cavalry Park last Saturday, writes John Smith.

Portobello secured an easy victory – and a goal kicker on form did not help things for Langholm. The home side grabbed seven tries, all of which were converted, plus a penalty goal.

No structure to the early Langholm play, coupled with weak defending, saw their opponents score three converted touchdowns plus a penalty goal in the first 15 minutes.

Langholm improved in the second quarter and produced much of the pressure, but made basic errors when looking like breaching the line and it was still 24-0 at the break.

Portobello added a couple of quick converted tries after the resumption and although the Milntown outfit had their moments, they just could not get points on the board.

Langholm appeared to have stopped the home side from touching down for another try, but the referee thought otherwise. And when Milntown flanker Jordan Reid expressed his displeasure he was dispatched to the sin-bin to watch the conversion going over.

Portobello added another converted try to make it a bad day at the office for Langholm.
