A programme of disability sport sessions for children and adults is being introduced to the region by Borders Sport and Leisure (BSL).
They will be held on Wednesday evenings at The Queens Leisure Centre in Galashiels and run as a 10-week block from January 16-March 20. Participants will have the opportunity to try out five different sporting activities – badminton, athletics, boccia, football and rugby, with each session delivered by a professional coach.
Ewan Jackson, BSL chief executive, said: “The Paralympics in 2012 heralded a new era for disability sport and we want to provide disabled people within the Scottish Borders with the opportunity to regularly participate in a range of sporting activities.
“The Paralympics multi-sports festivals we ran last year saw almost 100 children enjoy a taster of different activities and showed us there is a real appetite amongst these young people to get involved in sport.”
Alan Oliver, BSL disability sports officer, added: “The disability multi-sports sessions will give both children and adults the chance to build their sporting skills and, in turn, we hope they will find a sport that they enjoy and will to continue to take part in.”
The sessions last from 7-8pm (school-age children only) and 8-9pm (school-age children and adults). Further details from Alan Oliver (01750 724980).
