FAST-PACED CRICKET is set to hit the Borders next month when Border Sport and Leisure Trust (BSLT) launches its inaugural 2012 Borders Indoor Cricket League to be run in conjunction with Cricket Scotland.
In order to establish the new organisation as the leading player in the Borders sport and facility provision, BSLT is hoping to stage a series of ground-breaking events over the next year with the Indoor Cricket 6s League for Borders clubs, being staged at the Gytes Leisure Centre in Peebles, the first.
The tournament will take place between February and April and has an exciting format.
The teams (six-a-side) will play each other once in 10-overs-a-side games, maximum of three overs per bowler. Everyone must bowl (except the wicket keeper), batters retiring at 30 runs scored.
Because of the ‘lack of space’ there are scoring options not available outside, e.g. when the ball strikes the side walls and the wall behind the keeper one run is automatically scored, if the ball hits the wall behind the bowler, four runs are scored, if it bounces before hitting the wall, six runs are scored (the aim here is to keep the ball down), when batters run they only run three-quarters length of the wicket to encourage running, and each time a pair successfully changes ends two runs is scored.
The BSLT Indoor League has been opened up to the following clubs: Berwick, Biggar, Dunbar, Gala, Hawick, Kelso, Langholm, Manderston, Melrose, Peebles, Penicuik, St Boswells, Selkirk, Tillside and Tranent. Clubs can also enter under-16 teams for a separate junior league.
Entries will be on a first-come, first-served basis and organisers are hoping to get a minimum of eight teams.
