Hawick man Paul Aries denied assaulting a man with a wooden bat and possession of an offensive weapon at Bourtree Place, Hawick, on January 6.
The 29-year-old was refused bail by Sheriff Kevin Drummond and remanded in custody for trial at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on February 7, with an intermediate hearing on January 25.
