Tweedmouth Amateur Colts 1

SANDERSON CUP FIRST ROUND

A TRIP to Earlston Rhymers awaits Gala Hotspur in the quarter-finals of the Sanderson Cup this Saturday after an ugly,t hard-fought first round win.

Spurs were made to work hard by their opponents from Berwick on another wet, windy and freezing day at the Public Park, which made passing football especially difficult.

Tweedmouth should have opened the scoring early on when Michael Patterson was sent clean through, but his shot was well saved by goalkeeper Glen Murray, before the impressive Richard Ramage cleared a second shot off the line.

At the other end, Scott Nightingale rounded Tweedmouth stopper Graeme Cain, but his shot was also stopped on the goal-line.

But with half an hour played, Nightingale set up strike partner Callum Gass to skip past Cain again and roll the ball into the empty net.

Gass thumped home his and Spurs’ second five minutes into the second half, but Tweedmouth responded on the hour mark when Jordan Clark headed past Murray.

However, Nightingale replied immediately with Spurs’ third goal and David Crichton hit the post later on as Gala progressed.
