SALES of a print of the Border Reiver which forms part of Galashiels War Memorial has struck the right chord with the town band.

At a band coffee morning the musicians received a cheque for £810 from Galashiels funeral directors A & A Doyle.

Local artist Rob Black painted the Reiver prancing through a field of poppies to mark the opening of the company’s premises in Bank Street where the original now hangs. The firm funded the production of a limited edition of 400 prints which it is selling to support the development of Galashiels Town Band and the cheque represents the proceeds to date from the sale.

Band treasurer Iain Wilson: “We are investing large amounts of time and money in developing a new generation of young players. Nearly 50 children now receive free tuition each week under the baton of musical director Stuart Black. The funds generated by the sale of these prints will greatly assist the band in supporting this work.”

The prints, which are mounted and ready to frame, continue to be on sale to the general public from A & A Doyle at 10 Bank Street.
