TWEEDBANK seniors were soon up against it at Meadowmill when facing East Lothian last Wednesday.

A poor start by the Borderers led to a 73-40 defeat, but Hugh Clifton, Andrew Black, Danny McLean and Peter McGauchrane did finish with a win.

Portobello have now gone ahead of Tweedbank in the league, although the latter are still in front of Teviotdale, despite another excellent home win for them against Midlothian.

Skips and scores: Peter McGauchrane 13, F. Gray 10; David Weir 5, T. Young 31; Clark Chalmers 12, P. Laidlaw 14; Rob Fulton 10, J. Brodie 18.

The ladies’ last league match of the season was on Saturday when they entertained a team from Bainfield in an encounter which had no significance for either side – but it was nice to see Tweedbank recording an 87-82 victory.

The highest-up rink for the hosts comprised Betty Johnstone, Isobel Downie, Margaret Aitken and Sue Davis, who won by 20 shots.

Also up for Tweedbank were Marie Todd, Christine Kellett, Rita Jefferson and Gail Lindores, who triumphed by 12 shots.

Skips and scores: Gail Lindores 25, T. Blair 13; Sue Davis 37, A. Watson 17; Jackie Ormiston 17, A. Anderson 22; Pat Houston 8, S. Allan 30.

The men did not have a match on Saturday, however, Portobello defeated Teviotdale at home and they are now a point ahead of Tweedbank in the league with two games to go.

For Tweedbank, the first of these is away to Abbeyview on Saturday.

The highlight of the week was the result of the junior trial, which took place on Sunday at Midlothian.

For the third year in succession, Ben McGregor has been selected to play for Scotland in the home internationals, hosted this time by Wales in February.

He also has a trial for the senior team on Sunday at the Lanarkshire stadium.

At club level, the Christmas game is tomorrow and members are reminded to return their raffle tickets by today for the draw which will also take place tomorrow. Also, more donations of raffle prizes would be appreciated.

The list for names is up on the main noticeboard for the proposed Friday triples league to start in the New Year.
