THE wrath of the winter weather took its toll on most of the East of Scotland League football card last weekend, with only two games being played, writes John Slorance.

Selkirk’s home Image Printers Cup tie with Spartans was one of the casualties. The match suffered a similar fate the week beforehand and the Souters will be hoping that it will be third time lucky on Saturday.

Selkirk manager Mike McKinnon told TheSouthern: “It’s very frustrating. We are on a good run at the moment and we just want to get the game played.

“The bad weather couldn’t have came at a worse time for us and we have started to turn our season around, having won three games in a row.

“We are well aware that Spartans are a class side, but if we are going to do something against them, then this could well be the time. Hopefully, we will get the game played.”

Selkirk once again have Jason Inglis and Euan Pritchard out.

In the Premier Division, Vale of Leithen travel to Edinburgh to face Civil Service Strollers and co-manager Fraser Ogilvie said: “Our last two games have been postponed, but we have been training hard and are well prepared for Saturday’s match.

“It will be a tricky one for us and it will be up to ourselves how we do, but we are in need of a win, so hopefully one comes along.”

Vale are at full strength.

Having gained a draw with Gala Fairydean and recorded a victory over Eyemouth United in their last two outings, Hawick Royal Albert entertain Duns in First Division business at Albert Park.

Talking of his side’s improved form, Hawick manager Graeme Chadwick told us: “We are starting to find our feet and have collected four points in our last two games against two of the top teams in the league.

“Our confidence is growing, team spirit is good, the guys are all working for each other and, fingers crossed, we can get another result against Duns. The seven points we have picked up in the league this season have all been away from home, so it would be great to get a result at Hawick, especially for our young fans the ‘Ultras’, who are just brilliant.”

Hawick are without Ronald Fleming, Peter Keenan and Danny May, while Andy Noble and Martin Paton have been released.

Following their defeat at the hands of Coldstream, Gala Fairydean return to action with a home clash against Ormiston.

Peebles Rovers are also on their own turf, hosting Berwick Rangers Reserves. The two sides met just two weeks ago, with Peebles emerging surprise victors, and new-look Rovers will be gunning to make a double triumph for team boss Jason Girdwood.

Meanwhile, Kelso United meet Craigroyston at Woodside Park.
