KELSO WHEELERS Cycling Club held its annual awards ceremony and among the many winners on the evening was the local pipe band.

During the presentations, Wheelers chairman Andrew Ker presented a cheque for £668 to pipe band representative Donald Richardson.

The money was raised by club members during a 12-hour static cycle in Kelso Square and the donation is to be used by the Pipe Band to help towards funding kilts and equipment for band members.

Awards: Kelso Wheelers Club Championship – 10-mile time trial, Mike Burgher; 12-mile time trial, Kenny Darling; 20-mile time trial, Kenny Darling; 1km time trial, Rob Ure; 1-mile time trial, Mike and David Burgher (joint winners); hill climb, Colin Stevenson (in a new club record); overall winner, Kenny Darling.

The Cyclist of the Year, which is awarded to any club member who has made major contribution to the club, was given to Allan Laidlaw for his outstanding service as a timekeeper for many years and his efforts in setting up and running the club time trial league.

The club also celebrated the winning of the Border Trophy which they lifted in June, defeating Gala over two rounds.

It is a trophy the Kelso club hopes to retain next year when Berwick Wheelers are added to the competition, which therefore will be run over three rounds.
