Borders Elite Swimming Team (BEST) Performance Squad and Kelso ASC members Ryan Brown, Lucy Hope and Kirsty Armstrong significantly contributed to Scotland’s second placing at the WISE (Wales, Ireland, Scotland and England) International, held in Sunderland on Saturday.
The trio returned with an impressive record of three individual silver medals and five relay medals.
Fourteen-year-old Brown won silver in both the 12-14 years 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley.
Brown also played a role in silver and bronze-medal performances in the freestyle and medley relays respectively.
Hope, 15, won silver in the 15-16 years 100m backstroke and narrowly missed the podium, placing fourth, in the 200m backstroke. She also came away with silver medals in both the freestyle and medley relays.
Thirteen-year-old Armstrong made a strong contribution to the 12-14 years medley relay team, helping them to claim silver. Swimming against older opposition, Armstrong also did well to place fourth in both of her individual events, the 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley.
Brown and Armstrong’s efforts helped Scotland to the top junior team award along with the award for the top team in the 200m individual medley events, while Hope’s performances assisted Scotland in taking away the top intermediate team award.
