Serial winner triumphs

THE Matthew Templeton trophy brought in 18 rinks last week, writes Alistair Lindsay.

But, in the finals, some slightly one-sided affairs followed, no doubt brought on by fatigue and creaking bones. This is not to detract from the winning efforts of sometime serial winner, Keith Prentice son Graeme, Tommy Fleming and Ewan Stark.

The Bibby Trophy was taken by the James Stark rink, who have also been known to win the “Matty” in recent years.

If the previously reported Agrii Border League games of October 30 were one-sided, the games of November 6 made Scotland’s effort against the All-Blacks look a close run thing. To avoid embarrassment, only the winners get mentioned: Glendale 17-1; Greenlaw 13-1, Kelso 17-2 and in the closest game Lees 11-6.

The organiser of the Past Presidents’ competition has had little luck in mustering sufficient rinks to make the competition viable for tomorrow night – prospective skips have a variety of explanations for their unavailability. Other possible dates are hard to come by, one being December 21. There may be a date in the new year to hold a shortened version of this celebrated and notorious occasion.
