TWEEDBANK
IN A busy week of matches, the final league game of the season for the seniors was an away fixture at Midlothian, and with the Scottish Cup still to come, the men hoped to finish on a high note.
It was not to be.
With players missing and the need to reorganise the team, the match did not start well for Tweedbank and Midlothian were soon well ahead.
This remained the case right through the match with Midlothian ending comfortable winners by 71-54.
The next action for the seniors will be the Senior Scottish Cup when they will again be at Midlothian, this time to face an encounter with local rivals Teviotdale.
On Saturday, the men had their final league game – a home fixture with East Fife.
The match started very quietly before the Borderers accelerated to a 25-shot lead after 15 ends. Tweedbank men took total command over the remaining ends to win by a comprehensive 120-65.
All four rinks had good wins, the highest being Paul Butterfield, Mark Alexander, Ralph Nicholson and Malcolm Thin.
On Saturday, action for the men moves on to the Scottish Cup and in the preliminary round they will be at Meadowmill, facing a team from local rivals Teviotdale.
In the preliminary round of the new Ladies’ Scottish Cup competition, the Tweedbank squad travelled to Bainfield to meet a team from the Headwell Club in Dunfermline.
The Border ladies could not have had a better start and progressed to a comfortable 40-shot lead after 15 ends.
There was no way back for Headwell and the Tweedbank ladies finally won by an impressive score of 94-53.
Highest up rink for Tweedbank was Sheena White, Isabel Downie, Bette Ritchie and Pat Houston.
The next round of the Ladies’ Cup will be on Saturday, February 4, when they will face much tougher opposition from East Fife at Stirling.
