SOME interesting results have emerged from the opening rounds of the Agrii Border Curling League so far.
Last season’s winning club Glendale went down heavily to Greenlaw (12-1) while losing finalists Earlston must have put up a better fight to go down 11-7 to Coldstream. Duns would seem to have had two close games in more ways than one, pipping Foulden 4-3 and Lammermuir 6-4. Foulden subsequently peeled with Jedburgh 10 each and Kelso had a less than narrow squeak at 15 -1 over Lees.
Lauderdale had a walkover with Roxburghe and a potential walkover by Swinton against Yester has been sportingly avoided as an admin error by the latter created the problem and the fixture will be played at a future date.
Both clubs turned up for games on October 16, Swinton beating Lauderdale 7-4 and Yester going 13-4 over Roxburghe. The other two games on that date witnessed Chirnside opening their account at 8-5 over Teviotdale, and Selkirk going down 9-4 to Ayton Castle.
Laidlaw prelims on Friday saw Greenlaw lose to Coldstream, and Chirnside beat Lammermuir.
Yesterday, too late for publication, saw the first round of the Laidlaw tournament with Foulden v Swinton, Duns v Lauderdale/Lees coalition, Ayton Castle v Earlston and Chirnside v Coldstream.
The semi-finals will take place on Halloween and the final on Friday, November 2.
Incredibly, the draws have been made for the Berwickshire Bonspiel, now to be known as the Eddie Kellie Memorial Bonspiel, the Tweedmouth Kettle and the Dickinson Trophy.
