Hawick United 7
Greenlaw 2
SOUTH CUP FIRST ROUND
On-song United hit full chorus to book a spot in the second round.
Following an even opening spell, Hawick hit a purple patch that produced three goals within 10 minutes. Michael Moir got the Tangerines’ opener, putting away a Dale Caswell pass.
The Teries went further ahead as David Strathdee made no mistake with a penalty after Greenlaw player/manager Lawrie Dunn had handled in the box.
The home side kept up the pressure and Kevin Strathdee slotted away a third.
Before the break, Greenlaw reduced the leeway.
On the hour mark, Kevin Strathdee notched a fourth for United on being set up by Caswell. Hawick now had the bit between their teeth and Ross Scott put the visitors into further arrears by waltzing his way out of four challenges before shooting into the net.
Ace marksman Strathdee then completed his hat-trick.
Greenlaw pulled a goal back, but United had the last say when Sean Owens netted.
