Berwick 17
Hawick Linden 0
EAST DIVISION ONE
LINDEN travelled to Berwick on Saturday and, after last week’s struggle, put on a fighting display.
This was a thoroughly entertaining game with both sides committed to entertaining rugby. Both sets of backs were in excellent form and tackling of the tallest order from both sides.
The score of 10-0 in favour of Berwick at half-time slightly flattered the home side. A couple of missed kickable penalties for Linden proved costly, as was the Berwick knock-on that was missed by the referee as their pack powered over the line just before half-time.
But there was no doubt about their superbly-worked try in the second half.
For Linden, centres Steven Bouglas and Craig Smith ran hard and tackled with gusto, Nathan Murray was sound at fullback and always posed a threat in attack, and Barry Sutherland linked well at stand-off. In the forwards, old warhorse John Tait pounds on, while Blaine Willison, Greg Cunningham and Terry Skeet were to the fore.
