Winning formula works for Gala

THERE are no surprises in George Graham’s Wales bound side this week as the Gala coach has stuck with his winning formula, writes Fiona Scott.

Selection was straightforward after the great result the team had against London Scottish last Saturday and Graham commented: “Every player has earned the right to hold onto his position.”

There is only one positional change for the club’s second pool tie against Llanelli and that’s Bryce Turner starting instead of James King to give the centres equal time on the field.

Graham added: “We always knew that to compete with London Scottish everyone of the team would have to perform at their best and that’s exactly what they did and for most of the game Gala were the most dominant team.

“If we are to continue in this vein we will have to produce another great performance because it is never an easy task to go to Wales.

“We will have to be at our best to get anything against Llanelli but I know the boys are confident in their own ability and they’ll be trying their hardest to get another great result for Gala, the Borders and Scottish Rugby.”

Gala team to face Llanelli at the Parc y Scarlets (4pm): A. McLean; G. Somerville, C. Auld, B. Turner, C. Robertson; L. Millar, George Graham; L. Pettie, R. Anderson, E. McQuillin, C. Weir, O. Palepoi, Gary Graham, S. Cairns, E. Dods. Subs: C. MacKintosh, K. Mein, C. Keddie, J. King, C. Dods, G. Young, D. Owenson.
