NOVEMBER proved a busy month for Focus Judo coaches and junior players.

On the 13th, the club’s coaches attended a masterclass course in Motherwell, hosted by the current World and Olympic gold medallist, Ilias Iliadis, and Scottish judo player Euan Burton, currently ranked in the world top 10.

The course was attended by coaches from all over Scotland and the north of England, and was a great success.

One week later, the Focus held its own annual competition, where around 80 young judo players from around the Borders descended on the Focus Centre in Galashiels. The event was held as an introduction to competitive judo, where players compete for medals, but still have the chance to fight for the full contest time, which gives them valuable competition experience.

As well as Focus Judo club members, there were players from Peebles, East March, Duns, Kelso and Darnick.

The following week, two of the club’s coaches took children from Focus Judo Club to Tranent for a similar competition held by Sportif. This was another successful day for the club’s junior players and the end of a busy month for the club.

Peebles Judo Club plan to host the next event in February 2012.

This structure is proving to be a great success with junior players, coaches and parents alike.

If you or your child is interested in trying judo you can contact the club on www.focusjudo.org or email info@focusjudo.org for more details.
