TEVIOTDALE Turbos Emma Suddon, Amy McMichan and Lindsay Jack competed as part of Borders Sports Academy at the Heart of Midlothian Premier Age Group Meet at Prestonpans last weekend.

They were coached on the day by Alex Jordan, Borders elite swimming team coach. The trio were part of a team of swimmers from Kelso, Duns, Selkirk, Hawick and Galashiels, and had an early start with an 8.30am warm-up.

The first race was the 50m freestyle, with Lindsay performing well and Emma finishing fifth overall in her age group.

The next event (50m butterfly) saw Lindsay wipe five seconds off her previous time and Emma secure the bronze medal behind Heart of Midlothian’s Lexie Waller and Keanna MacInnes.

The opening contest of the afternoon programme was the 50m backstroke, with Amy getting her first swim of the day, knocking three seconds off her previous time. Lindsay also swam the backstroke and Emma clinched fifth again.

Emma was disqualified due to a technical fault in the 200m freestyle, but Kelso’s Lizzi Clelland took the silver medal in the 13 years age group.

In the final challenge of the day (50m breaststroke), the three Turbos all competed well. Kelso’s Amy Richardson won bronze in the 200m butterfly and Catherine Soeder finished fourth.
